The Parish of Bilston offers Baptisms (known as Christenings) in all 3 churches to families in the Bilston area. We baptise both Infants (babies) and Adults.
To book a Baptism/Christening. 1. To make an enquiry, please contact us on via our Facebook Pages or through this website. 2. Parents and potential Godparents will be invited to come to a 1st session looking at "What is Baptism? & "Who is God?' either on a Monday at 6pm or Saturday at 10am. This will help you decide if a baptism is what you want or to have a thanksgiving for a gift of a child. 3. Following the 1st session, Parents, Godparents and Baptism candidates are then invited to attend the main Sunday service in your preferred church to be welcomed. 4. Parents, Baptism candidate and potential Godparents are invited to come to a 2nd Session on a Monday 6pm or Saturday 10am looking at "Who is Jesus and why did he come?" At the end of this session, we will confirm and book a date for the Baptism. 5. Following the 2nd Session, Parents, Baptism candidate and potential Godparents are invited to attend the main Sunday service. After the service, (or on a separate occasion on a Monday 6pm or Saturday 10am) the 3rd and final session is completed looking at "What does it mean to be a Christian?" and a Baptism rehearsal is done. 6. The Baptism are conducted during the main services. St Leonard's 10:30am, St Mary's, 9:30am, St Chad's 11:00am. How do I choose my Godparents? We advise you to choose 4 Godparents (2 male, 2 female) to support the Baptism candidate, no less than 2 and no more than 5. Godparents must be of an age they can understand and accept the promises they are making therefore Godparents must be 16 years and over. Godparents must be baptised themselves. If there are questions regarding Godparents, please raise them at your preparation sessions. How much does it cost? Nothing! It's Free. On the day of your baptism, there will be a retiring collection. We do ask for donations so others in Bilston may benefit the joy of having their children/family baptised in our churches. We also ask for Gift-Aid on your donations too. Baptisms at St Leoanard's take place at 12:30pm. (or on occasions discussed with the vicar) Baptisms at St Chad's (11:00am) or St Mary's (9:30am) take place during their regular Sunday Service. |
